Stockport Hotels
Lying on the River Mersey, south-east of Manchester, Stockport is on the edge of the beautiful Peak District. During the 19th century it became a significant producer of cotton. It was also the centre for hat-making in the UK (a fact memorialised at the town’s Hat Works museum.) In recent years, an ambitious regeneration scheme, known as Future Stockport has got underway, with the intention of revitalising its residential property and retail markets.
The Manchester orbital M60 motorway and A6 road to London cross at Stockport. Stockport railway station is a mainline station on the Manchester spur of the West Coast Main Line. Stockport is connected with Central London by Virgin trains with regular services departing throughout the day.
